Following Victor Davis’s famed saying “Go big or go home,” Region of Waterloo Swim Club athletes did just that at the Junior Provincial Championships held at the Etobicoke Olympium from February 25-28th, 2010.

With over 60 clubs and 1,053 swimmers this was one of the biggest and most competitive age group meets in Canada.

Margot Cunningham got the meet off to a fast start on Day one by winning silver in the 100m backstroke with a best time of 1:02.80, going under the existing meet record in the process.

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, Leanne Wiese placed 6th on route to her first National Championships cut. 

Next event up was men’s 400 IM where Luke Summerhayes came up from behind to claim bronze in 4:32.94.

The next day Jonathan Vanderveen had a two second drop in his 100 freestyle to win bronze.

On the final day of competition, Graeme Kemp lit the pool up with his first National Championship qualifying time in the 200 backstroke, posting the fastest time overall in the morning. He came back to place second in the final with a still faster swim.

Weise and Kemp, along with fellow ROW swimmers Whitney Rich, Carly Martin, Renee Dijk, Margot Cunningham and Zach Summerhayes will be attending the National Championships this April in Montreal.
